Is Gatecrasher trying to destroy the Birmingham music scene?

Worrying news reaches Baron Towers that Gatecrasher Birmingham (the ruddy huge club thingy at the top of Broad Street) is allegedly paying reps to pull down or cover up posters from other local venues. I’m not a clubber so they’re on a losing streak with me already...I guess I’m not their target audience anyway...but IF this is true then it sucks balls. And so do they. Wouldn’t it be terrible if all their posters mysteriously ‘fell’ down over the next day or two eh? Music fans of Birmingham you know what to do...

Alternatively Gatecrasher can put an immediate stop to all this nonsense, issue a full apology and buy all of the hard working promoters of Birmingham several huge glass of red wine and we’ll say no more about it.

Additionally, 'word' seems to have it that they're 'making it sweet' for shopkeepers who normally display promo material to not accept any.

They're not the first Brum clubnight to do the "having other people's posters pulled down" thing (*CoughDaveJusteSubculturecough*), but this sounds like it's on a professional scale.

The swines.

It's a disgraceful affair all round but I reckon a bit of direct action will sort it out. Like many people have already observed it's not as if Gatecrasher and live music promoters are generally competing for the same audience. If they used their brains perhaps they'd team up with some of the local guys to offer cut price tickets for post gig entry to the next Timmy Mallet show they put on...
