David Bowie - Little Wonder

I was reading an article about underappreciated albums in some magazine the other night and Bowie's Earthling cropped up. To be honest most of Bowie's stuff from the late 80s until his final two releases isn't really played much these days which is a bit of a shame. On the one hand stuff like Little Wonder sounds a little dated now (Drum 'n' Bass-tastic) but on the other I remember how much it annoyed some of the old Bowie purists when it came out which, I guess, was one of the reasons why he did it. Whatever his motivation it's not a bad track. If 90s Bowie floats yer boat check out Jump from another underrated album, Black Tie White Noise too, a mere 25 years old this year. Good grief.

  1. I love Bowie's 90s "Outside", far better than that Nine Inch Nailsy band that seemed to inspire it.

(Hope you're all well, by the way!)

  2. Ah yes, Outside! Love The Hearts Filthy Lesson, that one still sounds pretty fresh. Ahhhh, we'll not see his like again (cue sepia tinged vid of a young boy pushing a bike with a basket full of Hovis down a cobbled street). Yep, all's good with us down here in sunny Dawlish. Hope all's good with you too. I keep popping back to your blog from time to time, are you still on T'Twitter or any of these other new fangled social media thingies?

  3. I'm still on the Tooters as @RussL but the vlog is largely fallow nowadays. Who knows, though - it's Supersonic (yay!) this weekend, maybe I'll brew up some nonsense after that.

  4. Awwww, I miss Supersonic. Always a ruddy great festival. Have a great one! Hopefully we'll get back up to Brum again for a MoFolk or MoJazz one year. Good to see The Flapper's got a reprieve, albeit a temporary one for now. All the best.

  5. I hate to say it, but I believe that The Flapper is still closing.

Sup'n'Sonic was fantastic, though! I really do love Shirley Collins.

  6. Nooooooo! I thought they'd been 'allowed' to stay open for another year at least. Bugger. Spent many a happy night there. I think. It all got a bit hazy after a pint or three of Dog Bolter. Devon really needs a bit of Sup'n'Sonic. Off to see Tom Jones soon though. That's kind of the same. Ahem. I'll have to have more of a listen to Shirley. I'm quite taken with Death And The Lady.

  7. No, you're right! I'm incredibly happy to be wrong: https://www.birminghampost.co.uk/business/commercial-property/beat-goes-flapper-live-music-14810314

I had a phase when I couldn't stop involuntarily singing "The Green Green Grass Of Home". I went to the doctor and he told me that I had Tom Jones syndrome.

I was really worried. I asked him if it was a rare condition.

    "It's not unusual," he said.

  8. Ha! Very good. You can't keep an old gag down. Great to see The Flap Flap sticking around for a while. Hopefully Brum will have more than enough apartments by 2019 and the 'developers' will leave the place be.
