Website Of The Week...and the story so far.
Honoured to have been named as Amazing Radio’s Website Of The Week this week. They did a little interview with me that went out on Monday. Did you hear it? Yep, I really do sound like that. I’ve also just completed the frankly pointless task of listing all the gigs I’ve ever been to. I’ve been meaning to do this for about 20 years, but kept putting it off figuring it would get easier of I left it a decade or two. Genius. Anyway, I’ve forgotten a whole bunch of stuff, especially in the early years (which look particularly sparse). There’s also a hell of a gap during my Uni years. Whilst most students spend three years dancing/shagging the night away I spent most of my time working endless shifts in 7Eleven and serving hookers with endless boxes of condoms. Hey, it’s a living. Anyway, if you’re really bored at work this list (it’s a biggie) is to the left of this gibberish under Da Pages. Enjoy.
PS: If you can tell me any gigs that I was at but haven’t listed then please do so. I‘m not sure how the hell you’d know this...maybe you’re my stalker...or some kind of freakin’ psychic...
That's ace. I love a list of every gig anyone has ever been to, I really do - both to read in and of itself, and to compare with my own.
ReplyDeleteIf I may be of assistance, the free gig that Editors did at The Flapper immediately before they became really famous was on 28/01/05. Needless Alley were on the bill too, and another band before them (whom I missed).
Annoyingly, I don't have the dates for the only two times I ever went to Ronnie Scotts (All About Eve & Carina Round. Assuming it's the same Carina gig - I know she did play there a lot, although I don't think she headlined very often so I suspect it's the same one) , so I can't help you with those.
Cheers Russ!I can fill in the Editors details now. Sadly a lot of the early gigs I went to are lost in the mists of time. Unless I kept the ticket stub (tickets eh...remember them?) I'm buggered and a lot of the smaller local gigs I went to I just paid on the door. I was lucky enough to see Carina a few times at Ronnie's. She was waitressing there in the early days (I think I may even have seen one of her first gigs after da Management there gave her a last minute support slot...later that evening she was back serving the drinks!). God...I sound like Ronnie Corbett. Hopefully I'll add a few more dates to the early part of the list from time to time when and if I remember them. This memory thing is one of the reasons I started this site. Mine's terrible. Unless I write something down I'm hopeless.

ReplyDeleteAh-ha, as the learned Partridge would have it: the All About Eve gig was, it seems, on the 6th of May 2001 (source here).
The Carina gig I saw at Ronnie Scotts (headlining, with Tinkerbell and Jack Rubinacci supporting), meanwhile, looks like it was 29/7/1. If you can remember who else was on the bill the times you saw her there then a scooch around this website (which I'd completely forgotten about) might get you the dates.
Excellent. Now I remember the All About Eve gig a bit more. It was the night before my birthday and Ronnie's had cocked up our table reservation so they ended up sticking a table on the stage for us. The band almost had to clamber over us. Nice. Ahhh the memories come trickling back. I'd forgotten all about that. I'll go through the Carina dates now too. I'm pretty sure I was there for Jack Rubinacci. Did she sing 'Party Fears Two' that night? Darm it my brain's like a sieve.
ReplyDeleteWow...just noticed that Carina supported John Martyn (RIP) at Ronnies. How did I miss that one? Arse!
